Target Audience

If you are a pharmacist, nurse practitioner, or other health care professional involved in the comprehensive medication management of individuals living with mental health and/or substance use disorders, we invite you to participate in this online course.

Session Summary

The prescribing of clozapine is limited to treatment resistant schizophrenia due to concerns of agranulocytosis, resulting in frequent lab monitoring to reduce this risk. Patients with benign ethnic neutropenia (BEN) are prescribed clozapine less often without evidence to support this practice. This is a growing area of research that has the potential to improve clozapine prescribing for patients in whom it is currently being underutilized. This session focuses on how psychiatric pharmacists can overcome these barriers and provide the best care to patients presenting with BEN.
