Session Summary

Many individuals begin to misuse substances in adolescence and young adulthood The presence of substance use disorders in adolescents has been linked to a number of negative outcomes, including death. The treatment of substance use disorders in adolescents must be appropriately tailored to meet the needs of the patient’s developmental stage, cognitive ability, and influence from family, friends, and community and should be multimodal in approach.
