Co-led by the Patient Medication Education Group Community and the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Community

Nearly 10% of youth are prescribed at least one psychotropic medication, with many lacking adequate psychoeducation - leading to improper use, poor adherence and adverse effects. Patient medication education groups (PMEG) led by psychiatric pharmacists have demonstrated improved medication-related outcomes, patient satisfaction, and cost savings in adult populations. While many psychiatric pharmacists lead PMEG on inpatient child and adolescent units, this is not well described in literature. The CAP/PMEG idea exchange will allow for high-level discussion of current processes for PMEG on child and adolescent psychiatry units – allowing for much needed attention to this important topic. This will be a special opportunity to share tools, ideas, and current practices among this unique population.
