Activity Date: 04/18/2023
We invite you to participate in this online course if you are a pharmacist, nurse, or other health care professional interested in administering and/or learning more about psychotropic long-acting injectables for patients living with serious mental illness or substance use disorders.
This Long-Acting Injectable Preparation and Administration Learning Lab provides pharmacists with an opportunity to prepare and administer psychotropic LAIs via gluteal and deltoid simulation muscles. Using models of the muscles, facilitators will provide instruction, assist with locating landmarks for the injection site, and provide feedback on intramuscular and subcutaneous injection techniques. LAI manufacturers have been invited to participate in the learning lab to provide information on specific LAIs and additional practice with product demonstration kits. Manufacturer representatives are able to provide education on the safe and proper use of LAIs. The goal of this activity is to enhance comfort with administering these medications and expand patient access to mental health care.
Up to 300 participants can be accommodated at this learning lab. The lab is a hands-on, interactive event that allows participants to come and go as they please within the timeframe offered. It is estimated that learners will spend 30 minutes visiting the stations in the Learning Lab and ACPE credit is available accordingly. However, spend as much time as you need to practice and gain comfort with preparing and administering the injections! The first 300 participants will receive a free, printed copy of the LAI clinical pocket guide. This guide is available electronically as well and is designed for easy access in practice to quickly locate key information about each of the available psychotropic LAIs.
To receive ACPE credit for the live session at the Annual Meeting, you must:
Upon successful completion, ACPE credit is reported within 24 hours to CPE Monitor although transcripts can be retrieved by participants online in their ACPE Transcript.
