The 2016 CPNP Annual Meeting (coming up in a few short months!) in Colorado Springs will be the second time that sessions designed specifically for our resident members will be offered.

The meeting held last year in Tampa, Florida hosted 88 registered PGY1 and PGY2 residents and kicked off the first annual “resident-track programming.” CPNP is excited to continue this new tradition due to the positive feedback received from attendees with residents reporting that each of the sessions met their educational needs and should be expanded upon at future meetings.

Based on this feedback, CPNP leadership and the Residency and New Practitioner Committee has designed an afternoon of sessions that are intended to be highly practical to residents as they prepare for their future career. The programming is scheduled for Sunday, April 17th from 2:00 PM to 5:30 PM opposite BCPP recertification programming. The resident-track programming is likely to be of benefit to new practitioners as well and may be attended by any registered meeting attendee, just as all other sessions throughout the Annual Meeting.

This year’s theme for the Annual Meeting is “CoNEXTions” and the 2016 resident-track programming aims to provide opportunities for residents to build relationships while learning strategies to improve care and advance their practice through gaining knowledge on the following topics:

“Managing Up and All Around: How to Prove Yourself, Gain Buy-In and Achieve Success”
2:15 – 3:00 PM

Sheila Botts, PharmD, FCCP, BCPP; Daniel Dugan, PharmD, BCPP; Phillip Lai, PharmD, BCPP

So you’ve got the job…now what? This session will showcase scenarios on how to thrive in any environment. Discussion will include understanding stakeholders, culture, and protocol early in your career.

“Starting a New Practice”
3:00 – 3:30 PM

Kelly Gable, PharmD, BCPP

This session provides practical, first-person insight into the key components of a successful new practice with discussion of factors that enable practice success. Additionally the session presents methods to demonstrate the value of a new practice in promoting growth and sustainability.

“Starting a New Practice Roundtables”

Residents can choose to attend two of the four featured practice areas which include inpatient practice, ambulatory care, academia, and Veterans Affairs. The goal of these roundtables is to provide residents with the opportunity to explore practice areas that may be of interest to them and allow time for discussion and networking.

Resident Community Meeting
4:30-5:00 PM

Residents will have the opportunity to network with each other, discuss projects for possible collaboration and identify needs of the community for the upcoming year.

“Ready, Set, BCPP”

Brian Lawson, Board of Pharmacy Specialties; Cynthia Kirkwood, PharmD, BCPP; Two recently successful BCPP candidates: Andy Williams, PharmD, BCPP and Traci Turner, PharmD, BCPP

Representatives from the Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) join us to explain the criteria that must be met before qualifying to take the board certified psychiatric pharmacy (BCPP) examination. The content outline domains are described and recently successful BCPPs outline their preparation strategies.

CPNP leadership is interested in your input on how CPNP can best serve the needs of residents and new practitioners in psychiatric pharmacy. Please feel free to contact any member of the CPNP Board, Resident and New Practitioner Committee, or staff to provide suggestions, ask questions, or just get to know CPNP better by starting a conversation.

We look forward to another great afternoon of resident-track programming at CPNP 2016!
