Backround/Overview

Due to the unique needs of the elderly, the Geriatric Psychopharmacotherapy Community was established to serve as a resource and tool for psychiatric pharmacists interested in geriatrics to network and share best practices.

Happenings in the Community

We are planning to have our first networking call in August, with the date and time TBA soon!  In addition to networking calls, we are planning to have at least two formal webinars before the next CPNP annual meeting. To better understand the needs of our Geriatric Psychopharmacotherapy Community members and prepare topics for the webinars, networking calls, and resources page, a Survey Monkey was sent out earlier this year. As part of the survey we listed different topics of interest in Geriatric Psychopharmacotherapy and asked for respondents to check each that they are MOST interested in. The majority (>50%) of respondents expressed interest in mood disorders, high risk psychotropics in the elderly, delirium, sleep disorders, behavioral disturbances in dementia, and dementias and mild cognitive impairment. These are just some topics we are currently considering for webinars, although topics may change depending on further input from the community members after having our networking calls and/or any interesting studies or topics that may arise. There is also already a wealth of resources available on the community home page. The community currently has approximately 106 members. We invite CPNP members to check out the community page and encourage anyone interested to join the Geriatric Psychopharmacotherapy Community!
