Activity Dates: 04/19/2021 - 04/19/2024
This course is designed for pharmacists, nurse practitioners or other health care professionals involved in the comprehensive medication management of psychiatric and/or neurological patients.
Despite availability of relatively effective psychopharmacological and psychotherapeutic interventions for PTSD, a large number of patients who are in psychiatric care are undiagnosed or do not receive proper care. This presentation will focus on diagnosis and treatment of PTSD in diverse civilian populations, including a review of the evidence-based available and novel treatments for PTSD in civilians and an exploration of the art of working with these populations. There will be an overview of treatments that are commonly used, but are not supported by research evidence, or might be harmful. The speaker will discuss challenges specific to diverse groups of traumatized people and ways of dealing with them, such as stigma, cultural differences, control, diagnostic mistakes, medication side effects, polypharmacy, and resistance to receiving treatment. The presentation will conclude by explaining ways of improving adherence to treatment and practical tips on improving patients’ function including lifestyle changes.
You will proceed through the following steps to satisfactorily complete this course:
Upon successful completion, ACPE credit is reported within 24 hours to CPE Monitor although transcripts can be retrieved by participants online in their ACPE Transcript.
