Rick Silvia, PharmD, BCPP, represented AAPP at the 2022 National Council for Mental Wellbeing conference on April 11, 2022. He presented a poster titled "Psychiatric Pharmacists on the Front Lines of Mental Healthcare" that highlighted the role of psychiatric pharmacists in filling the gap in mental health providers, as well as a description of who and what we are as a specialty.
The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) held their national convention vitually, June 14-16, 2022. AAPP was selected to present two workshops this year after participating in a highly competitive selection process. AAPP member Jeff Bishop, PharmD, MS, BCPP, FCCP, presented a workshop entitled “Finding the Perfect Fit: Matching Genes and Medications.” Dr. Bishop provided participants with an overview of pharmacogenetics and testing.
AAPP members Tanya Fabian, PharmD, PhD, BCPP, Andreea Temelie, PharmD, BCPP, along with Melanie Yabs, MS, PharmD, BCPP, presented a workshop entitled “Early Intervention Treatment: Limiting the Effects of Mental Illness.” Drs. Fabian, Temelie, and Yabs provided participants with benefits of early medication treatment and resources. AAPP wishes to thank all presenters for helping to educate NAMI participants.
Serotonin Toxicity in Older Adults
Michael McGuire, PharmD, BCPP and Amy Werremeyer, PharmD, BCPP responded to a direct request to AAPP by the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists (ASCP) for expertise in the area of serotonin toxicity. McGuire and Werremeyer published an editorial in the September issue of The Senior Care Pharmacist on the topic of Serotonin Toxicity in Older Adults. Thank you to Drs. McGuire and Werremeyer for showcasing the expertise of psychiatric pharmacists.
