Recertification Products: Expanding to Meet Your Needs

BCPPs are speaking and CPNP is listening! Recent product evaluation and BCPP survey results have demonstrated the desire for more recertification continuing education hours. In a December 2015 survey, over 30% of BCPPs indicated that their top “wish list” products would include case studies, presentations by experts, and/or the opportunity to learn from peers.

Taking this “wish list” into account, CPNP has submitted a proposal to BPS to offer an additional 10 hours of recertification credit annually increasing total offerings over a 7-year period to 215 hours.

Five of these 10 hours would be offered through a new product entitled, From Theory to Practice Case Series. The first offering of this product is tentatively slated for September or October of 2017. The Case Series will feature expert level patient cases encompassing treatment resistance and multiple disease states, journal readings, expert instruction via webinar, and a social learning component.

In addition to the new product, CPNP has proposed expansion of its successful Literature Analysis product from 10 hours of ACPE/BCPP value annually to 15 hours starting in 2016. It is proposed that the additional 5 hour product be a Late Breaking Literature Analysis focused on new trials/studies/meta-analyses, clinical practice guidelines, and/or landmark trials. The traditional literature analysis product would continue to be released in March while the new literature analysis product would be targeted for November..

Approval from BPS is anticipated no later than the fall of 2016. With approval, the full expanded slate of recertification products would be available starting in 2017 with hours available being more than double the 100 hours required for recertification.
