Target Audience

This course is designed for pharmacists, nurse practitioners or other health care professionals involved in the comprehensive medication management of psychiatric and/or neurological patients.

Session Summary

Recent studies suggest that psychiatric diagnoses are commonly found in patients throughout the transplant process and have both short- and long-term implications on morbidity and mortality. This impacts both recipients of a transplant, as well as donors. Nonadherence is common within the psychiatric patient population, which can ultimately lead to transplant failure. Additionally, studies suggest that commonly used psychotropic medications interact with calcineurin inhibitors and must be carefully monitored. Pharmacists can play a role in screening, analyzing medication regimens, and creating pharmacological treatment plan for psychiatric complications, adverse effects, and drug-drug interactions in the solid organ transplant patient population.
