Activity Date: 04/23/2021
The COVID-19 pandemic has caused much pain, suffering, and death to the world and disrupted all aspects of our lives. This great disturbance has greatly changed how we care for our patients and teach our students and residents. Many inpatient behavioral health units have been forced to limit the number of staff members, students, and residents coming onto the units each day. In addition to this, several outpatient partial hospitalization programs and outpatient residential programs have decreased in person groups or switched to an all virtual group format. Thus, some inpatient and outpatient patient medication education groups have gone from live, in person delivery to virtual formats. The goal of this idea exchange is to discuss best practices in conducting efficient and effective virtual patient medication group groups. The two speakers will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of teaching and facilitating virtual groups in the VA setting.
