Phoenix, Arizona served as host city for the College of Psychiatric and Neurologic Pharmacist’s 14th Annual Meeting held May 1-4. This four-day conference hosted a record number 497 attendees and featured over 20 hours of cutting-edge scientific presentations, 4.5 hours of industry supported symposia instruction, two product theaters and 135 scientific poster presentations.
Kicking off the meeting was a motivating keynote address by Dr. Linda Strand who issued a call to action to pharmacists to implement MTM programs. Dr. Lynn Crismon launched a series of morning programming focused on children and adolescents with a keynote session on the management of aggression in children. And finally, nationally recognized Dr. Stephen Stahl presented a closing keynote address on glutamate as the emerging frontier of psychopharmacology for schizophrenia and mood disorders. Jennifer Zacher, PharmD, BCPP, Clinical Pharmacy Specialist, Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center, North Chicago, IL, served as chair of the CPNP Annual Meeting. Sarah Melton, PharmD, BCPP, CGP, Associate Professor, Director of Addiction Outreach, Appalachian College of Pharmacy, Lebanon, VA, served as chair of the Recertification continuing education.
CPNP presented the 14th Saklad Memorial Lecture Award to Roger W. Sommi, PharmD, FCCP, BCPP, Professor of Pharmacy Practice and Psychiatry, University of Missouri-Kansas City. CPNP was also successful in raising over $5000 for the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) through the fourth annual CPNP Walks for NAMI event, a 5K run/walk on the final day of the meeting. Attendee donations were matched dollar for dollar by CPNP.
CPNP’s 15th Annual Meeting will be held April 29-May 2, 2012 at The Waterside Marriott in Tampa, Florida.

Installation of 2011-2012 officers was also conducted at the Annual Meeting. Steven Stoner, PharmD, BCPP, passed the gavel to,Jerry McKee, PharmD, BCPP, Associate Director, North Carolina Community Care of North Carolina (NCCCN), Raleigh. Also recognized as new President Elect was Rex Lott, PharmD, BCPP, Professor of Pharmacy Practice at Idaho State University in Boise. Drs. McKee and Lott will assume their duties beginning in July of 2011.
