Dr. Botts is an Assistant Professor of Pharmacy at the University of Kentucky, College of Pharmacy and a clinical pharmacy specialist in psychiatry at the Lexington VA Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky. She is board certified in psychiatric pharmacy practice. Dr. Botts is the program director for residency training in Psychiatric Pharmacy Practice at the Lexington VA Medical Center. She is also co-director of the research fellowship in mental health outcomes at the University of Kentucky, College of Pharmacy. Dr. Botts received both her BS and Doctor of Pharmacy degree at the University of Kentucky. She then completed a specialty practice residency in psychiatry as well as a two-year research fellowship at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and the San Antonio State Hospital. She spent four years as a Clinical Assistant Professor at St John's University and Clinical Coordinator for Psychiatric Pharmacy Services at Hillside Hospital in Glen Oaks New York before joining the faculty at Kentucky. Dr. Botts is a founding member and the current President of CPNP. She has also served on various committees including membership, recertification, and research as well as Secretary of the Board of Directors from 2004-2006. She is also active in both ACCP and ASHP. She has served as Chair of the CNS practice and research network of ACCP and is the past network facilitator for the psychopharmacy practice group in ASHP's section of clinical specialists. She has served as a reviewer for AJHP and the Annals of Pharmacotherapy, as well the Pharmacotherapy Self Assessment Program (PSAP). Her research and practice focus on optimizing pharmacotherapy outcomes for patients with mental illness. Specifically she is interested in the role of drug-drug interactions, medication adherence, health beliefs and continuity of care.
