Pharmacologic Management of Acute Agitation and Aggression in Youth

The Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (CAP) Community is hosting a webinar on the pharmacologic management of acute agitation and aggression in youth. During the webinar we will review updates in literature, clinical considerations when choosing intramuscular antipsychotics, and considerations for institution-specific guidelines. Applying the Pharmacists’ Patient Care Process to Your Practice

The Patient Care Practice Management Community is hosting a webinar on the topic of the Pharmacists’ Patient Care Process (PPCP). During the webinar we will define the PPCP, review why it is important, and discuss how it can be applied to various practice settings. Guest speaker Amanda Hickman, PharmD, MPH is the Trellis Rx Central Neurology Pharmacist based out of Atlanta, GA. In her position, Dr. Hickman develops and maintains the neurology protocols, guidelines, and best practices, helps to establish in-clinic neurology specialty pharmacy services at new sites, and provides support to these clinics through staff training and assistance. During this webinar, Dr. Hickman will discuss how many pharmacists are likely already using the PPCP in our practices and review her journey of incorporating the PPCP into the outpatient clinics that she has established within the in-clinic specialty pharmacy services.

The Teaching Community is hosting a webinar on the topic of initiatives, assessments or resources to address mental health at pharmacy schools and/or practice sites. During the webinar we will be focusing on how these are available to students, how they are used for students, and what impacts these have made on student mental health. Each speaker will target a particular area and what is being done at their respective institution.

Speaker Biographies

Andria F. Church, PharmD, BCPS, BCPP; Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice at Palm Beach Atlantic University Lloyd L. Gregory School of Pharmacy (West Palm Beach, FL). Her didactic teaching involves a variety of pharmacotherapy topics, namely neuropsychiatry and women’s health. Her clinical practice site is at a hospital, within the 90-bed inpatient psychiatric units. Here she is involved in experiential education by taking APPE students for their psychiatry elective.

Jeremy Daniel is an Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice with SDSU and a Psychiatric Clinical Pharmacist with Avera Behavioral Health in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Jeremy Daniel, PharmD, BCPS, BCPP was part of a task force with SDSU COPAHP to design and implement this program and will develop several of the lectures/programs related to this topic.

Kelly Gable is a Professor of Pharmacy Practice at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) School of Pharmacy. She works clinically as a psychiatric care provider at a Federally Qualified Health Center in St. louis, Missouri. She initiated and chairs a mental health and wellness taskforce, focused on enhancing the well-being of pharmacy students at SIUE.

Managing Buprenorphine Patients does NOT have to be Painful

The Substance Use Disorders Strategies Community is hosting a webinar on the topic of pain management for patients being maintained on buprenorphine for medication assisted treatment (MAT). During the webinar we will be focusing on the unique pharmacology of buprenorphine as well as its pharmacokinetic properties. We will also focus on acute and chronic pain management for patients being maintained on buprenorphine therapy for MAT as well as the various legal regulations surrounding buprenorphine prescribing and dispensing. Our speaker, Dr. Jacqueline Cleary, is a board-certified ambulatory care pharmacist who completed a PGY-2 in pain and palliative care at a VA hospital. Dr. Cleary is a faculty member for Albany College of pharmacy and practices at an integrated primary care center that offers addiction, psychiatric, and primary care services. This webinar is intended for all practitioners that work with substance use disorders or treat acute or chronic pain patients. Dr. Cleary is a consultant for both Remitigate LLC and Kaleo Pharma.

From 0 to 1: Turning your Poster Project into a Published Manuscript

The Research Community is hosting a webinar on the topic of publishing a poster as a manuscript. The work you put into your poster project does not have to be done in vain. Unfortunately, most poster projects end up being disposed of in conference center trash bins. With a little more time and effort these posters can become publishable manuscripts and your findings can be shared with others on a larger scale. Speakers Geoffrey Brown, PharmD and Terrance Bellnier, RPh, MPA, FASCP will discuss how to submit a manuscript for publication from a poster project.
