Program Philosophy

Residents are trained to assume responsibility for identifying and implementing opportunities to improve the medication-use system in psychiatric practice areas; and equipped to provide patient-centered medication therapy by participating as integral members of inpatient and outpatient interdisciplinary teams caring for individuals with psychiatric and neuropsychiatric disorders. Groomed for practice leadership, program graduates can be expected to continue their pursuit of expertise in practice; to possess advanced skills to identify the pharmacotherapy and medication use training needs of others caring for individuals with psychiatric and neuropsychiatric disorders; to deliver effective training to health care professionals and patients, and to contribute to public health efforts for mental health improvement and wellness.

Site Special Features

Residency program is shared between HCA Healthcare and our local behavioral health free-standing hospitals (i.e., TriStar Centennial Parthenon Pavilion and Pinewood Springs Mental Health Wellness); both of these practice locations are in the Nashville metro area and provide inpatient and outpatient services to a variety of patient populations. The resident will also be aligned with the HCA Healthcare Behavioral Health Service line and corporate Pharmacy Services; throughout the year, the resident will be involved in projects at the facility and corporate level. The resident will also have many opportunities to be involved in and network with other psychiatric pharmacists at the local, state, and national level.
