  • PGY2 Other Features: • This residency will welcome the resident’s valuable input in expanding clinical pharmacy services to individuals with psychiatric and neurologic disorders. • Required Residency Learning Experiences Include: o Rotations (8-weeks): Adult Inpatient Acute, Adult Inpatient Extended Care, Orientation, Pharmacy Administration, Psychogeriatrics o Longitudinal Rotations: Adult Outpatient, Education/Teaching, Hospital Systems Management, Medical Services, Pharmacy Operations, Pharmacogenomics, Research o Optional (facility census permitting): Adolescent Behavioral Health • The resident will precept pharmacy students, participate in topic discussions/journal clubs, and lecture on psych-related disorders at a local university. • The resident will design and conduct an original research project to be presented in a poster format at the American Association of Psychiatric Pharmacists (AAPP) annual conference.

Program Philosophy

• Hawaii State Hospital is the main site for this residency program. This is a Joint Commission accredited, fully licensed, 300-bed mental health facility providing inpatient psychiatric services for court ordered individuals within a safe and therapeutic environment. In addition, there is an outpatient psychiatric residential facility located on hospital grounds that serves as transitional housing for patients discharged from the hospital. Pharmacy services for the hospital and the outpatient facility are contracted with PharMerica Corporation.

Site Special Features

Residency is funded by Hawaii State Hospital in conjunction with PharMerica. Main practice site is the Hawaii State Hospital located on the island of Oahu. Outpatient rotation will be aligned with an outpatient residential program.
