  • PGY2 Other Features: The University of California, San Diego Health (UCSDH) Department of Pharmacy offer a one-year psychiatric pharmacy residency that balances direct patient care, research, and teaching opportunities. Core rotations include adult, geriatric, child/adolescent psychiatry, community mental health and consult liaison psychiatry. A teaching certificate is offered to those who do not already have a certificate. Didactic and experiential teaching opportunities are provided within UCSDHS and SSPPS. Scientific writing is strongly emphasized and the preparation/submission of a manuscript will be expected.

Program Philosophy

Our residency program is designed to train pharmacists to be board-certified psychiatric specialists who can manage patients with mental illness in a variety of practice settings. This residency program focuses on training residents to serve diverse required and elective experiences, teach students, healthcare professionals and patients and disseminate new information to advance the profession of psychiatric pharmacy. We strongly encourage professional growth, networking and advocacy.

UC San Diego Health Department of Pharmacy offers progressive clinical pharmacy services with over 200 employees, 15 pharmacy practice residents, and 13 specialty pharmacy residents. The pharmacy department works closely with the UCSD Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (SPPS) in providing didactic and clinical teaching.
Depending on the interests and qualifications of current PGY1 residents, we may offer early-commitment. Applications are due in mid-October and interviews will occur in November.
