Program Philosophy

Our program provides a unique opportunity for residents to train with nine board-certified psychiatric pharmacists in inpatient/outpatient settings including collaborative therapy management. Residents are exposed to a variety of psychiatric disorders and patient populations and have the opportunity to teach. This comprehensive and collaborative exposure trains residents to work in wide-ranging psychiatric pharmacy settings.

Site Special Features

Multiple sites are employed to expose the resident to a variety of mental health settings and experiences. The University of Maryland Psychiatric Pharmacy Practice program utilizes various State of Maryland facilities to fulfill the educational and experiential components of the residency. Residents are required to complete acute and chronic inpatient rotations with adult, adolescent, and geriatric patient populations. Residents also participate in an ambulatory collaborative practice managing patients with substance use disorders and other psychiatric diorders. Some of the elective opportunities include: Forensic Psychiatry, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Geriatrics, Substance Use Disorder, Eating Disorders, Administration, Inpatient or Outpatient Psychiatry within large medical system, and Research. In addition to these unique experiences, the resident is expected to participate in Pharmacotherapy Rounds, the Residency Professional Development Series, and teaching activities.
