Colorado Springs, Colorado served as host city for the College of Psychiatric and Neurologic Pharmacist’s 16th Annual Meeting held April 21-24. This four-day conference hosted 492 attendees and featured over 20 hours of cutting-edge scientific presentations, three industry supported symposium, two product theaters and a display of 137 scientific posters. Jodie Malhotra, PharmD, Clinical Pharmacy Specialist-Behavioral Health, Denver Health Medical Center, Denver, CO, served as Program Chair of the CPNP Annual Meeting. Sarah Melton, PharmD, BCPP, CGP, FASCP, BCACP, Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice, Gatton College of Pharmacy, East Tennessee State University, Johnson City, TN, served as chair of Recertification continuing education. CPNP’s 17th Annual Meeting will be held April 27-30, 2014 at the Arizona Grand in Phoenix, Arizona.

Kicking off the meeting was a keynote address by Dr. Shawn Shea on medication adherence and motivational interviewing techniques. Dr. Omar Manejwala provided the second keynote addressing the growing trend in synthetic drugs of abuse. Rounding out the meeting was a keynote address by Dr. Atul Butte who focused on the use of publicly-available molecular measurements to find new uses for drugs. Along with challenging, thought-provoking keynote addresses, the meeting provided over 20 hours of varied programming on topics such as PTSD, the DSM-5, Neurology, Academic Detailing and much more.

CPNP presented the 16th Saklad Memorial Lecture Award to Paul Perry, BSPharm, MSPharm, PhD, BCPP, FCCP, Professor at Touro University College of Pharmacy. CPNP was also successful in raising over $2100 for the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) through the sixth annual CPNP Walks for NAMI event. Attendee donations were matched dollar for dollar by CPNP.

In addition to providing high quality education, the following CPNP business and recognition was conducted at the CPNP Annual Meeting.

OFFICER AND COMMITTEE CHAIR INSTALLATION

  • Installation of 2013-2014 officers was conducted at the Annual Meeting. Rex Lott, PharmD, BCPP, Professor of Pharmacy Practice, Idaho State University, Boise, Idaho, passed the gavel to, Julie Dopheide, PharmD, BCPP, Associate Professor of Clinical Pharmacy, University of Southern California, Los Angeles, California. Also recognized as new President-Elect was Steven Burghart, DPh, MBA, BCPP, Director of Pharmacy, Rolling Hills Hospital, Franklin, Tennessee. Drs. Dopheide and Burghart will assume their duties beginning in July of 2013.
