
The Joint Commission of Pharmacy Practitioners (JCPP), a forum of thirteen national pharmacy organizations that addresses topics impacting the profession of pharmacy, met on September 30, 2025, in Alexandria, Virginia, for its annual fall meeting. During this meeting, JCPP focused on building consensus to advance pharmacists’ patient care roles and tackle evolving workforce, business, and health plan challenges in pharmacy. The meeting agenda included discussion of:
- the Align Summit and its advancing of provider-health plan partnerships and adoption of consistent approaches across HealthPlans.
- the National Academy of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) Innovations in Pharmacy Training and Practice work on addressing educational and clinical models shaping pharmacy competencies, showcasing efforts to bridge education-practice gaps and impact patient outcomes positively.
- work conducted by APhA /ASHP/ NABP on Implementing Solutions: Building a Sustainable, Healthy Pharmacy Workforce and Workplace that provided actionable workforce solutions, focusing on strategies to enhance well-being, resilience, and satisfaction among pharmacists and pharmacy technicians in all practice settings
- the Employer Perspective: Purchaser Needs and Pharmacy Practice that shared insights on what purchasers require from pharmacists, underscoring opportunities for pharmacists to align with broader business and patient care needs in employer-based settings.
- Health Plan Logistics: Integrating Pharmacists in Patient Care Services through successful models for pharmacist-provided care, credentialing, and reimbursement, highlighting lessons learned for adoption by other health plans.
- Scaling Services Across State Lines, where speakers discussed the challenges and strategies for expanding pharmacist-billed services across state borders, focusing on regulatory, workflow, and training consistency for scalable innovation.
