Jolene Bostwick, AAPP President
AAPP staff, Board, newly elected Board members, and the Foundation President-Elect are fresh off a 2-day Board retreat centered on preparing for our future members. We focused our efforts on evolving our assumptions about the future of the work of psychiatric pharmacists, considering how we can best support our members, and how we can continue to ensure AAPP thrives now and well into the future.
In 2026, the Board is prioritizing further study of the impact of AI, evolving patient care opportunities, the pipeline into psychiatric pharmacy, potential sweeping insurance changes, and other hot topics. Your feedback will be incredibly important to us as we further explore these topics and consider how they will impact our patients, advocacy, and our practice.
We additionally began work to refine our vision, mission, and values to modernize language as recommended by members in our early 2025 member survey. After significant growth in our professional and governmental advocacy efforts over the past 3 to 5 years, we also addressed updates to our strategic plan/direction documents. Further updates will b provided as we roll out these updated informational documents in 2026.
The Board and staff work year-round to assess and implement goals and strategies through an iterative process we have adopted. This process allows us to keep pace with rapid change and improves our nimbleness and adaptiveness as we continue to work on evergreen goals such as growing and retaining BCPPs, fostering awareness and interest of our specialty, developing future leaders of the profession, continuing to recognize the innovation and excellence among our AAPP members, evaluating opportunities in the legislative sphere, and identifying best practices in advocacy among our members.
I am grateful to have the opportunity to collaborate with such thoughtful and dedicated individuals on behalf of you and our profession. I want to assure you that the AAPP Board and staff are committed to adapting to the uncertain, turbulent times ahead, in partnership with you, our members. We look forward to continuing to make an impact together.
Wishing you all a Happy Thanksgiving!
