Target Audience

If you are a pharmacist, nurse practitioner, or other health care professional involved in the comprehensive medication management of individuals living with mental health and/or substance use disorders, we invite you to participate in this online course.

Session Summary

Gun violence is on the rise in the U.S. with staggering numbers reported in 2021. The impact of gun violence affects not only the victim, but also the families, caregivers, frontline healthcare workers, and communities. Overall, there is a paucity of research on the impact that gun violence has on mental health and subsequent treatment. This presentation will explore the relationship between mental health and gun violence, both as a cause and as an effect. In addition, the presentation will focus on community/collective trauma, race-related impact, the mental struggles of healthcare workers, and the pharmacist’s role in treatment and recovery of those impacted.
