Course Description
Neurogenetic syndromes are frequently accompanied by psychiatric and behavioral symptoms that require careful, individualized management. However, many clinicians have limited experience caring for these complex patient populations. This session will review the psychiatric manifestations commonly associated with neurogenetic disorders and examine the evolving evidence supporting pharmacologic treatments, including emerging treatment strategies. Participants will explore the unique safety considerations, medication risks, and ethical challenges that influence psychotropic prescribing in individuals with neurogenetic syndromes. Attendees will leave with best practices for developing evidence-based, patient-centered treatment plans that promote psychotropic stewardship and optimize outcomes across the lifespan.
Learning Objectives
- Identify psychiatric symptoms associated with neurogenetic disorders.
- Analyze the risks and benefits of medications in the management of psychiatric symptoms due to a neurogenetic disorder.
