Course Description
Involuntary commitment presents complex clinical, legal, and ethical challenges that require thoughtful, patient-centered decision-making from the interdisciplinary care team. This session will examine the legal principles that govern involuntary treatment and explore the ethical considerations that arise when balancing patient autonomy, safety, and beneficence. Participants will discuss evidence-informed approaches to selecting and managing pharmacologic therapy for individuals receiving involuntary treatment while considering patient-specific factors and evolving standards of care. Attendees will leave with strategies to navigate these challenging clinical scenarios and support ethical, evidence-informed treatment decisions for individuals under involuntary commitment.
