BCPMP Recertification

AAPP is a BPS certified provider of BCPMP (Board-Certified Pain Management Pharmacist) recertification education in partnership with the American Pharmacists Association (APhA), the Society of Pain and Palliative Care Pharmacists (SPPCP), and the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists (ASCP).

Current Board-Certified Pain Management Pharmacists (BCPMPs) are required to recertify every 7 years. Recertification assures the public and the profession that BPS-certified pharmacist specialists undergo periodic evaluation to verify their knowledge and skills are maintained. Recertifiers must:

  • Sit for and successfully complete the BCPMP examination through BPS and 20 units of continuing professional development activities;

OR

  • Complete 80 units of approved BCPMP Recertification programming and 20 units of continuing professional development activities

Board-certified pharmacists may earn up to 40 continuing pharmacy education units (out of 80) for multiple specialty recertification during a 7-year period.

Annually, AAPP will offer dual BCPP and BCPMP recertification credit for select presentations within the Clinical Application Series and Summit products. Periodically, the From Theory to Practice Case Series (T2P) product may also be awarded dual BCPP and BCPMP recertification credit. When applicable, the T2P product will appear in the table below for that year.

The American Pharmacists Association in collaboration with the Society of Pain and Palliative Care Pharmacists, the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists, and the American Association of Psychiatric Pharmacists (AAPP) is approved as a Professional Development Provider for the Board-Certified Pain Management Pharmacists (BCPMP) specialty by the Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS).
