Target Audience

If you are a pharmacist, nurse practitioner, or other health care professional involved in the comprehensive medication management of individuals living with mental health and/or substance use disorders, we invite you to participate in this online course.

Session Summary

The incidence of intentional drug overdoses involving antidepressants, antipsychotics, and other psychiatric medications is on the rise in certain patient populations. It is crucial to have a thorough understanding of the distinct toxidromes associated with medication classes and specific agents for effective identification and management of overdose. Unfortunately, there is a lack of guidance regarding the reintroduction of these medications following intentional overdoses, leaving clinicians unsure of the best approach. By the end of this presentation, participants will learn how to identify potential toxidromes associated with psychiatric medications, effectively manage overdose situations, and make informed decisions on the reintroduction of these medications post-overdose.
