If you are a pharmacist, nurse practitioner, or other health care professional involved in the comprehensive medication management of individuals living with mental health and/or substance use disorders, we invite you to participate in this online course.

Session Summary

Patient ambivalence in treatment and medication non-adherence are common challenges in mental health settings. Poor therapeutic alliance with care providers is frequently cited as a reason for lack of engagement in mental health treatment. This often stems from experiences of patients feeling that they are not able to collaborate in their own treatment. One solution for this is to implement patient-centered interventions, such as shared decision making and motivational interviewing. Clinicians responsible for medication management may not always provide care consistent with patient-centered practices due to lack of experience or comfort. This session will help psychiatric pharmacists identify factors that contribute to treatment ambivalence and medication non-adherence and recommend strategies to address these issues.
