If you are a pharmacist, nurse practitioner, or other health care professional involved in the comprehensive medication management of individuals living with mental health and/or substance use disorders, we invite you to participate in this online course.

Session Summary

A burgeoning mental health crisis is evident in the United States, despite the country’s significant human resources and spending on mental health care and research. Effectively responding to this crisis is impeded by the dominant framing of mental health through the prism of diagnostic categories, leading to an excessive reliance on pharmacological interventions that are delivered by specialists; a scarcity of widespread promotive, preventive, and recovery-oriented strategies; and failure to leverage diverse resources already available within communities. This lecture will describe innovative, evidence-based practices from low resource contexts in the Global South which offer practical strategies to reimagine and transform the approach to mental health in our communities.
