Greetings everyone,
I cannot believe summer is already fading and autumn is quickly approaching. It can sometimes feel as though there is little time to pause, reflect, and recharge, but I hope each of you has found an opportunity for some well-deserved time away from the day-to-day grind before the summer days wind down.
Before we turn our attention fully to the months ahead, I want to take a moment to look back at our wonderful Annual Meeting this past spring in Bellevue, Washington. The Pacific Northwest welcomed 713 attendees in person, with another 236 joining virtually. More than half of attendees were BCPPs, and we had representation from 27 states and five countries. We were also thrilled to welcome 144 students, whose enthusiasm and engagement brought a ton of energy to the meeting!
Thanks to the generosity of our donors, the AAPP Foundation was able to support many meaningful activities throughout the conference. These included the awarding of a DEI grant; sponsorship of the opening session, “The Pleasure-Pain Balance in a Dopamine-Overloaded World,” presented by Dr. Anna Lembke, which was truly fabulous; four Collegiate Chapter Impact Grant presentations; eight grant-recipient posters; three research awards; and the Unity Walk. The Foundation also supported hundreds of professional headshots, many of which quickly found their way onto LinkedIn!
I invite you to explore the rest of this newsletter to learn more about, or simply revisit, some of the highlights from the 2026 Annual Meeting. We also hope to see you virtually for the AAPP Summit on October 1–2. And be sure to save the date for next year’s Annual Meeting, which will be held April 4–7, 2027, in Louisville, Kentucky.
As I reflect on everything we experienced together in Bellevue, I am reminded that none of it would have been possible without the commitment of our members, donors, staff, volunteers, and attendees. On behalf of the 2026 AAPP Foundation Board of Directors, thank you for helping us recognize and support excellence in research and create opportunities for students and trainees to become more involved in our profession. Your generosity continues to move the Foundation and our profession forward, and I am excited to see the opportunities and experiences we will be able to offer and support when we gather again in Louisville.
