The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration opened a long-awaited administrative hearing June 29 on a proposal to move cannabis from Schedule I to Schedule III of the Controlled Substances Act, with proceedings expected to run into mid-July. A shift to Schedule III would formally recognize accepted medical use and ease research restrictions. AAPP supports the rescheduling of cannabis to enable the necessary research.
