AAPP submitted comments to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in response to its Request for Information on the chronic disease of addiction, emphasizing the essential role psychiatric pharmacists play in expanding access to evidence-based mental health and substance use disorder care. AAPP's recommendations call on HHS and CMS to remove regulatory barriers that limit psychiatric pharmacists' ability to practice at the top of their license, recognize them as key members of interdisciplinary care teams, and support policies that strengthen the behavioral health workforce, improve medication access and management, and enhance patient outcomes.
