President’s Blog: AAPP’s Strategic Plan and the Future of Work

The past year has been a time of change and promise. With the release of our updated Strategic Plan, AAPP is embracing the future while reaffirming our commitment to the work that matters most.

Guided by our mission and values, we are moving forward with clarity and purpose. As always, our plan centers on four pillars: Advocacy, Education, Workforce, and Operations. At the heart of it all is our dedication to building and supporting a strong and adaptable workforce. Psychiatric pharmacists do remarkable work every day including supporting patients, advancing care, and adapting to new challenges, both unexpected and expected.

Our recent membership survey provides insight into how you are experiencing some of these changes. Many of you recognize board certification as key to your professional growth and patient outcomes. You are also thinking creatively about education, technology, and the evolving role of artificial intelligence (AI) in pharmacy practice. As AI continues to advance, discussions regarding its impact on our workforce will be ongoing including meetings at AAPP 2026 as well as sessions such Applying Artificial Intelligence to Personalized Treatment Planning in Mental HealthWe look forwarding continuing these meaningful conversations with our members as we work to advance the specialty in this evolving world.

While some challenges are real, from shifting practice settings to changing regulations, your voices reflect resilience, optimism, and a genuine passion for our field. One member captured this spirit well by sharing, “AAPP is a fantastic organization that has provided me opportunities to grow as a psychiatric pharmacist, to connect with colleagues nationwide, and to make a real difference.” This sense of connection and impact is at the heart of what we do.

We are listening and responding. Our strategic plan includes expanding professional development, innovating in continuing education, investing in technology, and promoting advocacy for our members and patients. We will continue to celebrate achievements, foster career growth, and build the supportive, inclusive culture that makes AAPP unique.

Change brings uncertainty, but it also offers opportunity. The strength and creativity of our community are why I am confident in our shared future. Thank you for your dedication and for making AAPP a place where vision and values become action.

I invite you to stay engaged and share your ideas. The future of psychiatric pharmacy depends on all of us. I look forward to continuing to take strides together.
