AAPP Student Chapters Make a Huge Impact

Author: Katelynn Mayberry, PharmD

During the 2024–2025 academic year, AAPP student chapters demonstrated exceptional dedication to psychiatric pharmacy and community engagement. Across 50 chapters reviewed, 43 participated in impactful community service initiatives, while 42 contributed meaningfully to campus life through leadership and collaboration. Fundraising efforts were strong, with 41 chapters organizing events to support their missions. Notably, 77 students from 25 chapters were represented at the AAPP Annual Meeting in Utah, showcasing student research and leadership on a national stage.

Several chapters stood out for their exemplary contributions and were considered for future awards. Among them, Auburn University hosted a Mental Health Fair that drew 96 attendees and conducted naloxone and QPR training, highlighting their commitment to suicide prevention. EMSOP (Rutgers) impressed with a wide array of activities including high school outreach, a Halloween carnival, and a social media infographic series that served as a model for other chapters. High Point University packed naloxone kits and organized a hike for mental health, while NOVA Southeastern University hosted a large-scale Mental Health Fair and creative Psych Cinema events to engage students in mental health dialogue.

A notable trend this year was the widespread participation in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s, with at least four chapters joining this impactful cause and raising awareness for dementia-related illnesses. Additionally, many chapters invested in peer education through journal club workshops, with at least three chapters hosting sessions to enhance scientific literature analysis and clinical knowledge among their members. Another inspiring theme was the emphasis on mental health and wellness, with at least 19 chapters organizing stress-reduction activities, wellness workshops, and events featuring therapy dogs—showcasing their deep commitment to supporting the well-being of their classmates.

These accomplishments underscore the passion and hard work of our student chapters. Their efforts have not only advanced the mission of AAPP but also made a tangible impact on their campuses and communities. We commend every chapter for their contributions and look forward to another year of growth, advocacy, and excellence in psychiatric pharmacy.
