Dr. Sommi is Professor Emeritus of Pharmacy and Psychiatry in the Division of Pharmacy Practice and Administration, with a cross appointment in the Department of Psychiatry at UMKC schools of Pharmacy and Medicine. He is also the Pharmacy Coordinator for the Missouri Department of Mental Health and is a preceptor for the residency programs at the Center for Behavioral Medicine in Kansas City and Fulton State Hospital in Fulton, Missouri. He received his BS in Pharmacy from the University of Wisconsin at Madison, Doctor of Pharmacy the University of Utah, Residency in Hospital Pharmacy at the University of Utah Hospital and Fellowship in Psychopharmacy at the University of Texas at Austin. He is board certified in Psychiatric Pharmacy Practice and is a Fellow of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy. His area of research interest is primarily in outcomes associated with drug treatment of schizophrenia and other psychiatric disorders. His practice is primarily as a consultant with community mental health centers. He is active in the Crisis Intervention Team training program for several local law enforcement agencies.
