Target Audience

If you are a pharmacist, nurse practitioner, or other health care professional involved in the comprehensive medication management of individuals living with mental health and/or substance use disorders, we invite you to participate in this online course.

Session Summary

Social determinants of health are conditions in the environment in which people are born, live, learn, work, play, worship, and age that affect a wide range of health, functioning, and quality of life outcomes. Every patient has unique and distinct social determinants of health that can help or hinder their treatment. Treatment of patients with mental illness creates many social challenges that are often overlooked. Pharmacists should understand social determinants of health, and how these parameters can affect a patient’s mental health, and subsequent care. This session will teach psychiatric pharmacists to treat their patients while considering their social determinants of health..
