Target Audience

If you are a pharmacist, nurse practitioner, or other health care professional involved in the comprehensive medication management of individuals living with mental health and/or substance use disorders, we invite you to participate in this online course.

Session Summary

Patients with chronic psychiatric conditions experience higher rates of unplanned pregnancies, which can make treatment more challenging. Furthermore, individuals with psychiatric disorders may be at higher risk for symptom exacerbation during pregnancy and might be taking medications that could potentially harm a developing fetus. This session will focus on the advantages and disadvantages of different contraceptive methods, enabling pharmacists to consider multiple factors (e.g., personal attributes, concurrent medications, reversibility of the contraceptive method) when choosing the most suitable options for patients with psychiatric conditions.

Consider making this session part of your BPS Continuing Professional Development plan! Please refer to the BPS Psychiatric Pharmacy Content Outline to see how this activity may align.
