Course Description
Many psychiatric pharmacists practice in areas where newer or more novel products are not yet adopted. As the field grows, more and more novel delivery systems are likely to come to market, and all psychiatric pharmacists should be familiar with their use. Treatment of the medically ill mental health patient is a challenge that psychiatric pharmacists are often called upon for assistance. When a patient with a severe mental health issue is also facing a complicated medical issue, these novel delivery systems may be an advantage over traditional treatment, especially if a patient is unable to take medications by mouth. This presentation will review the practical use of products with novel delivery systems.

Learning Objectives
- Evaluate the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of novel delivery systems of psychotropic drugs.
- Compare and/or contrast use and safety of novel delivery systems with traditional delivery systems.
