Course Description
Alcohol use disorder (AUD) continues to be a condition that is detrimentally affecting the lives of many Americans. Mortality continues to be on the rise. With the costs of inpatient hospitalization and stigma of mental health treatment being deterring factors in those seeking care, it’s important to utilize ambulatory management of these disease states when feasible. This session will review the prevalence of AUD, the barriers and suggested solutions to ambulatory management of withdrawal, and how psychiatric pharmacists can be integral to treatment. Participants can expect to learn proper treatment strategies including pharmacotherapy plans for managing the care of alcohol withdrawal in the outpatient setting.
Learning Objectives
- Describe the prevalence of alcohol use disorder, including the rates of those seeking care for withdrawal.
- Discuss the criteria for appropriate patient selection for ambulatory management of alcohol withdrawal.
- Review optimal therapeutic management options for outpatient management of alcohol withdrawal.
Target Audience
If you are a pharmacist, nurse practitioner, or other health care professional involved in the comprehensive medication management of individuals living with mental health and/or substance use disorders, we invite you to participate in this online course.
