  • PGY2 Other Features: he resident will have required experiences in inpatient psychiatry, outpatient psychiatry, and mental health residential rehabilitation. Multiple elective experiences are available, including substance use disorders, pharmacogenomics, neurology clinic, memory care clinic, primary care mental health integration, rural primary care mental health integration, tele-mental health, tele-pain, academia, program management/administration, pain clinic, and geriatric psychopharmacology. The PGY2 Psychiatric Pharmacy resident will manage patients with psychiatric and neurologic disorders longitudinally in a resident-facilitated clinic setting. Optional involvement in an interdisciplinary quality improvement project & curriculum provides unique experience working with an interprofessional team to create meaningful change at the facility. The resident will be offered opportunities to precept both PGY1 residents and IPPE/APPE pharmacy students when available.

Program Philosophy

Upon completion of this residency program, graduates will care for individuals with psychiatric and neurologic disorders, and will assume responsibility for patient-centered medication therapy. The psychiatric clinical pharmacy specialist will be able to function as an integral member of interdisciplinary teams, serving confidently and effectively as the psychiatric medication expert in both outpatient and inpatient settings. Graduates will be prepared for board certification in psychiatric pharmacy.

PGY1 Special Features

PGY1 residency with a primary care focus. An exceptionally flexible program that provides clinical pharmacy services to patients in ambulatory care, acute care, extended care, palliative, hospice, and home care in a teaching hospital by outstanding, well-qualified board certified clinical pharmacists and preceptors. Clinical pharmacy services are significant in the ambulatory clinics, inpatient areas, mental health clinics and in long term care areas. The resident will be offered opportunities to precept IPPE/APPE pharmacy students. Teaching certificate through Idaho State University is available. Local area "Resident Forum" collaboration between multiple residency sites meets monthly to engage in a teaching and learning curriculum. Please see website for more information.
