The role of psychiatric pharmacists in child and adolescent psychiatry (CAP) and psychotropic stewardship takes center stage in a recent article published in APhA’s Pharmacy Today. Provided as an open-access article courtesy of APhA, the author highlights the important role of psychiatric pharmacists in CAP and in implementing psychotropic stewardship. The article emphasizes the treatment complexity inherent in youth living with neurocognitive and/or mental health disorders and the need for increased attention to safety, follow up, and coordination of care. AAPP members Lauren Leiby and Danielle Stutzman are prominently featured describing the work they do daily to care for youth by applying psychotropic stewardship to “increase medication safety, ensure patient and prescriber satisfaction, and reduce adverse events as well as health care costs.
