Course Description
Differentiate alcohol and opioid withdrawal syndromes and how overlapping symptoms of mental health disorders complicates scoring of withdrawal rating scales. Upon review of withdrawal rating scale results through case-based learning, you will be able to determine potential opportunities to optimize care of both withdrawal management and psychotropic medications for individuals with a co-occurring substance use disorder and mental illness.
Learning Objectives
- Differentiate symptoms of opioid and alcohol withdrawal.
- Illustrate the overlap of symptoms with withdrawal ratings scales, mental health disorders, and adverse effects of psychotropic medications.
- Examine clinical considerations for care of those with co-occurring disorders.
- Choose initial treatment for managing withdrawal syndromes using the results of a withdrawal rating scale.
- Optimize pharmaceutical care plans by working through case-based activities of patients with mental illness experiencing substance withdrawal.
Target Audience
If you are a pharmacist, nurse practitioner, or other health care professional involved in the comprehensive medication management of individuals living with mental health and/or substance use disorders, we invite you to participate in this online course.
