Course Description
This three-part workshop will be delivered virtually over the course of six weeks. The first session will be three hours in length and will focus on applying foundational meeting design principles in different settings and practicing interactivity tools and civil facilitation techniques. The second session will be offered one week later and will also be three hours in length. This session will introduce conversation models and strategies for engaging participants, concluding with hands-on planning for real-life meetings. Prior to attending the third session, participants should actively apply the strategies from Sessions 1 and 2 by leading a meeting in their professional setting or through an AAPP committee. The third session will be offered four weeks after the second to give learners enough time to lead a meeting and will offer reflection and long-term strategies for applying facilitation skills in various professional environments.
The workshop will accommodate up to 20 learners.
Learning Objectives
Effective Meeting Design (3 hours of ACPE credit)
Session 1 (Week 1 | September 9, 2026 at 11 AM Central)

Effective Facilitation Techniques (3 hours of ACPE credit)
Session 2 (Week 2 | September 23, 2026 at 11 AM Central)

- Explain basic effective facilitation techniques including focused conversation method.
- Develop strategies to engage participants in meetings.
- Apply good facilitation techniques in a meeting environment.
- Write discussion questions and plans for an upcoming meeting.
Evaluation and Looking Forward (1 hour of ACPE credit)
Session 3 (Week 6 | October 28, 2026 at 11 AM Central)
Learning Objectives
- Discuss the experience of facilitating a meeting.
- Explain how the facilitation strategies can help all constituents engage in a discussion.
- Identify how the facilitation skills can be used over the coming year in various settings.
