Course Description
This session introduces psychodermatology, an under-recognized field that explores the bidirectional relationship between psychological factors and skin disease. Learners will examine the high prevalence of psychiatric comorbidities in dermatology and classification of psychodermatologic disorders. The webinar highlights current practice gaps, including limited clinician training, restricted access to specialty care, and a lack of robust evidence to guide treatment. Participants will learn how integrated care models unite dermatology, psychiatry, psychology, and psychiatric pharmacy, and support individualized pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic management. By the end of the session, learners will be equipped to apply psychodermatology principles in practice, improving holistic, collaborative, and empathetic care for patients with overlapping dermatologic and psychiatric needs.
Learning Objectives
- Describe the bidirectional relationship between skin and mental health.
- Assess psychotropic and dermatologic treatment–related adverse effects.
- Outline a comprehensive treatment plan for psychocutaneous disorders, including pharmacotherapy, psychotherapy, and holistic approaches.
