This course is designed for pharmacists, nurse practitioners or other health care professionals involved in the comprehensive medication management of psychiatric and/or neurological patients.
Within the past several decades, the United States and other countries around the world have seen an increased prevalence of long-term antidepressant use. While evidence for the long-term use of antidepressants exists, particularly in relation to relapse prevention, there is still a lack of robust data regarding overall long-term use, the optimal length of antidepressant treatment, and particular patient factors that may influence the benefits or risks of continued, long-term use of antidepressant medications. Psychiatric pharmacists are well-suited to help treatment teams identify the benefits and risks for long-term use of antidepressant medications and make patient-centered decisions about continued antidepressant use.
This program will provide participants with information regarding the current trends in the long-term use of antidepressants, the benefits and risks of continued long-term use, and the factors related to making the most patient-centered decisions about continued, long-term use of antidepressant medications.
